Community Engagement Facilitator (CEF)

Working out of the Arusha Centre, for CHAI.

Start Date: depending on the successful candidate's availability.
Hours: 20-30 hours/week (negotiable), occasional evenings or weekend meetings.
Contract Duration: 6-9 month term contract (depending on hours).
Compensation: $24/hr - hourly rate (includes benefits paid out).

What is CHAI?

The Calgary Housing Action Initiative (CHAI) is a citizens action group supporting community engagement of people from across the Calgary community to create a collective voice in advocacy and action for housing for all.

Job Description:

The CHAI Community Engagement Facilitator will oversee the development of organizational infrastructure to support the engagement of members of the Calgary community in the activities of CHAI and build the capacity of CHAI to function as a volunteer run organization. This will include performing the various communication support and administrative tasks, until the infrastructure (funded and/or volunteer) is in place to sustain those functions.

Tasks:

Responding to enquiries to CHAI, including email, telephone, post and media.
Development of a communications strategy and processes, including outreach to community members, media, government and political organizations.
Put together a volunteer managed phone tree.
Volunteer support and management.
Networking with other groups and agencies addressing housing issues.
Pursue opportunities to develop funding for CHAI and the CHAI working groups.
Attending general and administrative meetings of CHAI.

Qualifications:

Experience with anti-oppressive practice for inclusion of diversity.
Strong verbal and writing communication skills.
Internet usage (email, websites and willingness to learn basic website administration).
Excellent organizational and self-management skills.
Ability to recruit, train and manage volunteers.
Meeting facilitation skills.
Motivated by a desire to see broad-based inclusion in social change.
